African American Baby Shower Invitation

Your first paragraph ...

When someone is expecting a baby, no matter where one comes from, it is considered as one of the most important and happiest day in a life.

Regardless the nation one belongs to, at this particular point, the baby shower is a kind of celebration that is supposed to be held for the coming baby.

Of course, depending on the nation and religion, there are many different customs and traditions, which their members carry out in order to save their heritage and roots.

Although African Americans lost lot of their traditions, many of them celebrate this lovely event with an Afro-centric theme in order to honor their ancestry and rejoice at the coming of new life.

Similarly as Americans do, African Americans celebrate a baby shower by having a person who will host a baby shower. This person is bringing the new mother's community together to support her new family trying to incorporate their great African American heritage, which reflects who they are and who will unborn baby become.

Although black people celebrate baby shower almost in a same way as white people do, there are some rituals that they carry out which they have inherited from their ancestors. Since in African societies, traditions and rituals associated with pregnancy are highly spirituals, African Americans include some of them in celebrating baby shower event. But not all rituals are spirituals, some of them are very fun and may look like some games.

For example, during this event attendants may remove shoes in recognition of the sacredness of the ritual. Also black people usually pour the water from a wooden cap into a plant saying the prayer at the same time because they believe that if they say more prayers the baby will be healthier. Another interesting ritual is to place a mother of honor in the middle of the circle under a Kente cloth umbrella while guests go around sharing childbirth experiences.

Giving presents for the coming baby is another tradition of African Americans. Gifts reflect the type of relationship the one who is giving a gift has with future parents. What would be the perfect gift is very difficult to determine especially if the baby's gender is unknown and because the baby shower is usually a surprise. In these situations the gests that the host invited to this celebration should find out the needs of the mother to be or even they may ask the mother directly about the presents.

African Americans usually celebrate baby shower in a friend's home or at some banquet halls or restaurant. Decorations are also very important as they add a distinctive touch to the event. Usually black people use Kente cloth for decoration and of course, African symbols are infallible parts of decorations.

Since African American baby shower celebrations are slightly different comparing to other nation's baby showers, the invitations as one of the main parts of this event are also with Afro centric theme.

Africans have a very interesting saying:"Children are reward of life". This is something that African Americans certainly believe in.
